approx. January 22, 1999If Ron Hubbard were still alive, the founder of the Scientology sect would certainly be happy: John Travolta, one of his most famous adherents has rearranged his calendar in order to be able to play in the film "Battlefield Earth." Hubbard wrote the science fiction epic in 1982. Travolta will take the role of Terl, an extraterrestrial who has enslaved mankind and has them digging away underground in the mines. As producer he also will assume a portion of the cost of the $80 million project. A bold investment. Before him, no studio found Hubbard's books good enough to make into a film.
